Ancient German variety. Small, ”pear” shape with yellowish-green, smooth skin. Fine, buttery flavor with lots of sweet juice, refreshing and perfumed. Perfect size for lunch boxes and snacks for the kids. May be enjoyed firm and a little tart, or allowed to ripen to buttery rich goodness. Used fresh, dried, juices and sauces. Ripens in September to October. Mother tree appears to immune to coddling moth and shows no sign of blight.

The completely wild mother tree grows in the town of Forest in Sierra County. Forest was a very productive gold mining camp beginning in 1852. The remaining town is full of antique pears, apples and cherries that we will be introducing over the next several years.
